EU-funded R&D project ComfDemo (2019 – 2022) is successfully completed on December 31st 2022
EU-funded R&D project ComfDemo: Successful measurement campaign of vibro-acoustical data during different flight periods in turboprop airplane and development of a vibro-acoustical actuation system into a cabin simulator for short-haul aircrafts (2019 – 2022)
On 1st August 2019, VHP (Netherlands), TU Delft, Trent University Nottingham (UK), LMU Munich and itap GmbH started the EU-funded research project ComfDemo with the aim to gain knowledge on passengers comfort in regional short-haul turboprop aircrafts and to develop a cabin demonstrator to simulate different flight situations. The task of itap GmbH was to perform real-flight vibro-acoustical measurements and develop a vibro-acoustical actuation system for the cabin demonstrator. The demonstrator itself was developed by the aircraft manufacturer Leonardo S.p.A., Italy, in cooperation with Fraunhofer IBP.
Itap GmbH successfully recorded in-flight vibro-acoustical data during a complete turboprop flight with and without passengers in different flight phases. This kind of data has not been published in any previous, publicly available projects and formed an essential part of the comfort analysis on the passengers. In addition, the concept and equipment for the vibro-acoustical reproduction system has been successfully developed during the duration of ComfDemo and is waiting for its final integration into the demonstrator at Fraunhofer IBP in 2023. It consists of different types of commercial and custom-built speakers and custom-built vibration units as well as their respective amplification and signal-processing.
