NAVESS
Experience report “Detonation noise” published
The itap GmbH has successfully completed the research project “Environmentally friendly detonation at sea (NAVESS)” and published the experience report “Detonation noise” in an accessible format.
The project was funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation under funding number 3522521500. The experience report “Detonation noise” contains a cross-project evaluation and assessment of underwater noise measurements for mitigated and unmitigated detonation at sea. Not only detonations of old ammunition finds were measured and evaluated, but also detonations with a newly defined TNT-equivalent explosive mass (a total of 141 detonations with a total of 716 measurement data sets). Finally, based on this measurement database, a simplified model was developed for the approximate calculation of the expected sound immission during detonations, which offers authorities and project developers the opportunity to plan detonation campaigns as environmentally friendly as possible.
